I’ve noticed that on my USB flash drive and on my camera’s SD card there is a file called » _disk_id.pod «. This file has NEVER shown up before until recently. What is it and can I get rid of it?

It’s more than likely programming for the camera that was dumped to the card. you could probably remove it, but first copy it to your computer in case you have a problem and you can simply put it back where you got it from. On the other hand, the pod files are usually bytes in size and if you delete it you aren’t going to be gaining any more space for pictures. But the choice is yours. Here is some additional info:
