What can I do with this gif maker?
What media sources can I make gifs from?
Can I save my GIFs online?
Why is there an «imgflip.com» watermark on my GIFs.
The Imgflip watermark helps other people see where the GIF was created. We really don’t want your GIFs to look bad though, so we made it as small as possible while still being readable, and it will not even show up on tiny GIFs. You can disable the watermark completely with a Pro account, if you really need to have watermark-free images.
Why does my GIF not animate on Facebook / other social media website?
Facebook will sometimes decide to animate gifs, and sometimes not. For best chances, make sure the width and height of your gif are both larger than 200px, since Facebook tends to not animate small gifs. Sometimes you have to click share, then exit out of the window, and then click share again. Other social media websites may have similar issues, because they can decide to handle GIFs however they want, outside of our control.
Video to GIF
Which video formats can I upload?
Some of the popular supported video formats are flv, avi, mov, mp4, mpg, mpeg, wmv, 3gp, asf, swf, ogg, h264, rm. But there are hundreds more.
How can I make my GIFs higher quality?
Make sure the v >Imgflip Pro will allow you to create even higher quality GIFs by raising the limits on various settings.
How do I put audio/sound on my GIFs?
Imgflip supports sound on gifs made from any v >Imgflip Pro account, because our server costs are higher when using audio. Once enabled, your visitors to imgflip.com/gif/. will be able to toggle audio on and off using the sound button.

- Arrange images. Drag and drop the images you selected until you get them ordered correctly. The Auto Arrange button will sort your images alphabetically (click twice for reverse order).
- Adjust options. Adjust the Delay until the speed of your GIF looks normal. Remember to check «private» if you’re not going to share it online.
- Generate. After making your gif, you can download it and share the link with friends. If you’re logged in, your gif will be stored on your images page.

Upload and convert video to GIF
With this online video converter you can upload your mp4, avi, WebM, flv, wmv and many other popular types of video and rich media files to turn them into high quality animated GIFs. Source video file can be uploaded from your computer or smartphone or fetched from another server by URL.
After upload, you can select the part of the video you want to cut, entering start and end time. If nothing is selected, the converter will make a GIF from first five seconds of the video clip. If you want to change the dimensions of the GIF or crop out only part of the video, you can use our resize and crop tools on the GIF after finishing the conversion.
We offer MP4 to GIF, WebM to GIF, AVI to GIF, MOV to GIF, FLV to GIF as well as 3GP, OGV, M4V, ASF and other format converters. It’s possible to convert transparent video (with alpha channel) to transparent GIF as well. It can also convert some SWF (flash) files, but currently not all of them.
- Frame rate (fps ) is the amount of frames shown each second. Higher frame rate gives smoother and more cinematic animation thus increasing perceived quality, but greatly increases file size. Choose accordingly for your needs.
- To keep the file size and processing time reasonable, we limit maximum length of the part you can select for conversion (duration) depending on selected frame rate. If you want to create longer GIFs, you have to select lower fps. Maximum length at 5 fps is 60 seconds, at 10 fps it’s lowered to 30 seconds and so on.
- Pause the video and click «Use current video position» to get an accurate start and end time for your GIF.
- Use our crop, resize and optimization tools below the output image, to adjust the dimensions and file size.
If you are looking for a tool to perform conversion the other way around (GIF to Video), give our GIF to MP4 or GIF to WebM converter a try.
Or if you want to make a GIF from multiple images, use our GIF maker instead.

Why use a GIF instead of a video?
GIFs are short, they rarely last over 5 seconds, and they usually have small file sizes too, so they don’t prevent web pages from loading quickly. And they’re usually charged with emotion — scenes that become GIFs generally express emotions in a big, recognizable way.
There’s no mistaking this scene for anything other than excitement. GIFs tap into the shared stories we consume. Sharing a scene from a specific show or movie brings up emotions tied to that movie and add power to your point. And, for those of us who watch way too much TV, they instantly connect us to other pop culture fanatics.
If you want to make an instant emotional connection with your audience, why not post a GIF?
How to turn video into GIF
While there are a lot of ready-made GIFs available on platforms like Giphy, making your own is pretty painless. Let’s take a look at some different options, each with different levels of sophistication. You can use a Mac, PC, or mobile device to use a GIF creator.
Using Giphy
Giphy is a super quick and easy to use gif maker. While it’s not particularly sophisticated, it took us less than 3 minutes to create this GIF, including sourcing the YouTube clip. No prizes for guessing what we watched this weekend…
1. Select “Create” in the top right hand corner.
You can make a GIF using the video URL from a video hosting platform like YouTube or Vimeo, or by uploading your own video file.
2. Make your GIF
Enter the start time for your GIF and chose the duration. You can also add tags and captions. When you’re ready, scroll to the bottom and select “Create GIF.”
3. Share your GIF
Making a GIF with Giphy is incredibly simple and quick. You don’t even need to make an account. Find a video on YouTube or upload one directly to Giphy, set the start time and duration, and you’re good to go!

Make a GIF
If you’re looking for a slightly more sophisticated, but equally quick GIF creator, Make a GIF could be the one for you. Sign in through your Twitter or Facebook account, or create a brand new one. You can use Make a GIF to create high quality animated GIFs from:
- Pictures
- YouTube videos
- Facebook videos
- A video you upload
- Webcam
Let’s go through the steps of creating a GIF through a YouTube video.
1. Log into your Make a GIF account and select “YouTube to GIF.”
2. Enter the YouTube URL
3. From there, you’ll be taken to the GIF creation page.
Select the start time for your GIF by dragging the cursor to the right time. Then, chose the length by dragging the “GIF Length” cursor. Your GIF can be up to 10 seconds long.
You can add tags, choose a category, and add stickers. You can also choose to enable audio. If you upgrade to the premium version, you can make HD GIFs and delete the watermark, but the free version is fun, easy to use, and good enough to help you get started.
This is the GIF I ended up with after less than 5 minutes. And, in my defense, most of that time was spent figuring out what clip to use.
Using Photoshop
To get the greatest control over your GIF creation, Photoshop is the clear winner. If you’re using Photoshop, we’re going to assume you’re pretty tech-savvy, and will just give you the basic version of how it’s done.
1. Open Photoshop (we’re using Photoshop CC 2017).
2. Go to File → Import → Video Frames to Layers.
3. In the dialogue box, you can change the settings to select the part of the video you want to use (use the sliders underneath the thumbnail to set the range of frames), or you can lower the frame rate to conserve file size. Make sure the ‘Make Frame Animation’ box is checked, and hit ‘OK.’
4. Go to File → Export → Save for Web (Legacy). (File → Save for Web in previous versions.)
5. So many options! You can limit the file size here by playing with the number of colors, or the Image Size options, but if you’re lazy and don’t mind how big your GIF is, just hit save, and you’re done. Easy.
